The company's founding is Strada al Portello, in Milan, in an area in the era called Portello, where there was an inn frequented by the few motorists of the turn of the century. The brand A.L.F.A., acronym for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, means "Lombard Company of Automobiles". This name is chosen because it takes the first letter of the Greek alphabet and highlights the beginning of a new activity in the car industry, that of sports cars. The company was created after the acquisition by a group of Lombard industrialists of a small structure present in the automobile industry, belonging to the French Alexandre Darracq. This one had tried, without result, an industrial adventure in the Kingdom of Italy.

Since its origin and its first logo, the company wants to remember its links with its city of origin: on one side the serpent of Visconti (the famous biscione), on the other the red cross on a white background, the symbol of the Lombard capital, Milan. The 250 employees resulting from the resumption of Darracq's business are all integrated into the new company, which has set itself the ambitious goal of manufacturing 300 cars a year.

La constitution de la société s'opère Strada al Portello, à Milan, dans une zone à l'époque champestre appelée Portello, où se trouvait une auberge fréquentée par les rares automobilistes du début du siècle. La marque A.L.F.A., acronyme de Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, signifie « Société anonyme lombarde de constructions automobiles ». Ce nom est choisi car il reprend la première lettre de l'alphabet grec et permet de souligner le début d'une nouvelle activité dans la construction automobile, celle des voitures à caractère sportif. La société est créée après la reprise par un groupe d'industriels lombards d'une petite structure présente dans la construction automobile, appartenant au français Alexandre Darracq. Celui-ci avait tenté, sans résultat, une aventure industrielle dans le Royaume d'Italie.

Three "spiders" or two-seater roadsters were made in 1952, with a two-cylinder all-alloy four-cylinder engine. A year later, one was modified in coupe, and another in spider more classic. Two more specimens were equipped with a 3.5-liter six-cylinder, the engine of the Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM racing car. Four of the five cars built survive today.

L'Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 "Disco Volante", communément appelée l'Alfa Romeo Disco Volante ("La Soucoupe Volante" en italien), est une série expérimentale de voitures de sport et de course produites en 1952 et 1953 par le constructeur italien Alfa Romeo, en collaboration avec le carrossier Milanais Carrozzeria Touring. La voiture se distinguait par une carrosserie simplifiée, testée en soufflerie.

Trois "spiders" ou roadsters, biplaces découvertes, furent fabriqués en 1952, avec un moteur quatre cylindres 2 litres tout en alliage. Un an plus tard, l'un fut modifié en coupé, et un autre en spider plus classique. Deux autres exemplaires furent équipés d'un six cylindres de 3,5 litres, le moteur de la voiture de course Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM. Quatre des cinq voitures construites survivent aujourd'hui.

This magnificent restoration was made by Barghell, according to very strict standards. This car has a 5 speed gearbox.

Although based on Bertone's original style, Pininfarina was hired to handle Giulietta's payment. The Spider Veloce was added to the Giulietta range in mid-1955 in 1956, and only 2,796 copies were made, making it the rarest model, except for the low-production specialties Speciale and Zagato.

The Giulietta Spider Veloce was equipped with a twin-cylinder, twin-link, 1.3-liter all-aluminum cam, producing 115 horsepower paired with a four-speed ZF manual transmission. The body was light but stiff thanks to the unibody construction, and coupled with the rugged 4-cylinder meant that the beautiful little tandem was a real sports car.

La Giulietta Spider Veloce était équipée d'un quatre cylindres jumelés à cames jumelées de 1,3 litre tout en aluminium, produisant 115 chevaux jumelés à une boîte manuelle ZF à quatre rapports. Le corps était léger mais raide grâce à la construction unibody, et couplé avec le 4-cylindres robustes signifiait que la belle petite biplace était une véritable voiture de sport.
